Visit to Dana and Steve's.....

This weekend Adam and I went to Dana of Cat in My Lap and her hubby Steve's home for a visit. We had a great time and we felt so welcome there.Dana feed us like Kings and Queens. The only downer of the weekend was that Daisy never showed herself all weekend.
We got there Friday night and dinner was waiting on us and the table looked beautiful. The next morning we awoke to find breakfast being cooked and then eating out side on the patio. Then we were off to a fiber show in Kellyville. After lots of shopping and a overload of wool we stopped and had lunch then we went to the Gilcrase Museum.WOW is all I can say about the museum. If you like Cowboy and Native American art it is a must see!!! Then it was back to their home for more great food.

Here is Dana and I with her oh-so-cute bike in her backyard.
This is her dry creek bed.I really loved this.

I wish you could have seen these in person.WoW

Now you can see Dana and I at our best....shopping for fiber.

This is what you call wool heaven.I came home with 2 pounds of roving and 2 bags of silk and one book.Dana can home with a new toy, but I am going to let her tell you about it.
I hope that some day Adam and I can make that trip again too make more memories.Thank you Dana and Steve for a great weekend.
Live Deeply and go make a new friend.

A Night at Knit Wicks.....

Dana from "Cat in My Lap"and I had a big night on the town Thursday. As you can see from this pics we are real party girls. Our first stop and our last stop for the night was Knit Wicks the cute little year shop down town Rogers, Ar. Dana is looking to buy a spinning wheel and I have one that I don't know how to use so we got some instructions and then tried our hands at spinning. I want to learn to spin so I can make some yern to hook with.

Now, this lady here is why our last stop was back at Knit Wicks.Dianna has been spinning for over 20 years and is very good at it.It was nice to see a pro at work.Dana and I had a great time and I think we both learned something.
All the spinning wheels shown are Ashford's and that is the kind I own.I just had to have a Ashford because that is my maiden name.
Live Deeply and go spin some wool.

Gifts Given and Gifts Receved...

Recently I was given a gift that made my day,no! week,no! month.Dana from "Cat in my Lap" made what she called her art purge. She cleaned out her studio and had some things that she just hated to throw away.So she gifted it to other people.I put my name on the list and was hoping for one of her beautiful handmade books. What I got almost made me cry.Not only did I get one of her books but I got two.Yes, two,one big book and one little book. She also sent me 6 of her handmade cards and a bookmark. And the greatest was the hand painted silk scarf.I will be her trash can anytime.
Dana and I meet at ESSA a few years back when she took a needle felting class I was teaching and I am so blessed to have her as a friend now.
Here is a better view of the silk scarf.

Now for the giving part. This last summer I started this rug for a class I was going to teach.I had no plans for it other than a teaching tool. Then came the news that a young man from our church was getting married "at last". Adam and I had become very fond of this young man and I wanted something special for him and his bride. So I got busy and finished this rug for them.

Here you see them after they opened the gift and as you can see they are giving it a good look. She had never seen a hooked rug and now she wants to learn.I never got to teach the class I made this rug for because the class did not make, but now I will be teaching it to Carrie.
I also use one of the cards that Dana gave my for this gift and they loved the card and could not believe it was handmade.
Live Deeply and give a gift today.

Page 56, Sentence 5 & 6

Dana over on A Cat in my Lap is playing tag so I thought I might join her. Here are her rules:
Rules:
1.Find the NEAREST book at your fingertips.
2.Turn to page 56.
3.Start with the fifth sentence on the page.
4.Copy no more than 4 sentences, at least two.
5.Give your bibliography ( I added this rule)
6.Pass along to others.

Page 56, Sentence 5,6,7 & 8
1733 May 17 Molasses Act passed, which placed high duties on rum and molasses imported from French and Spanish West Indies.Admission of American merchants into the rum trade of French West Indies (1713)caused a boom in sugar on those islands.Planters on the English islands lost out as New England ships put into French and Dutch ports to load up with cheap sugar. They petitioned Parliament and forced passage of the Molasses Act, which levied prohibitive duties on sugar and molasses brought to the colonies from other than British possessions.
The Encyclopedia of American Facts and Dates.....

I know..I know this is bad..

Now this is not a book I am reading but Adam had it right by the computer and it was the only book within reach, other than the dictionary I keep close for my bad spelling.I love to read but I keep all my books in my bedroom.

By-the-way, the dictionary's page 56,sentence 5 is...aurevoir ( Farewell)

A night for art...Mad Hatter Ball

Victorian Ghost Bride

Victorian Ghost Bride and Lady in Bat Black.

Dana and me.

Pot Head and Joe the Plumber.

Here is Dana in her felted hat, Steve the beer mug and Secret Life of Flies.I wish I had got a closeup of her flies.

Dancing was all the rage...click of the picture and see the whole costume.

Because of the bat rug I made for this night and worked bats into my costume. The bad thing was you can't see them in any of the pictures.I made a bouquet of sticks and little bats.

And my hat had a bat too.

I was lucky to win the bid on a beautiful scarf made by Dana of Calico Cat Press

Bat rug is done..and just in the nick of time

Dana,I am happy to report that the bat rug is done and off to the party.I did the binding at my doll club meeting and them came home to stem the edge.Next I put the bat wings on.That took a little thinking but, they worked out just as I planned. After looking at the rug all done I could not help but think that it needed something. It just did no Wow me like I was hoping for.One friend side maybe it needed a moon. After cutting a moon out and giving it some thought I know that was not what I was looking for.So off my studio/junk room. After a little looking around I was setting in the floor with boxes of beads. That was just what the Doc ordered.
After the beading was done I ran back to town and dropped the rug off to Eleanor Lux president of ESSA.

You may need the make the pictures bigger to see the beads. Now the rug has the spark that I was hoping for.

I did use the moon that I cut out on the back of the rug for my name and the date.

Now just remember,if you are anywhere close to Eureka Springs Friday Oct. 24 come join us at the Mad Hatter Ball and you can bid on my bat rug"Night Flight". All the money goes to ESSA Eureka Springs School of the Arts.

Visit to Dana's Cabin

I know there are some of you out there that will be so jealous to know I spent a few hour in Dana 's cabin http://cabinchronicles.blogspot.com/ last night. What a place it is too.Can you say CUTE! Dana was wanting on the porch for me when I arrived. We spent your time talking, talking and eating hotdogs. The cabin smelled of cookies baking when I arrived .This was not the first time I have visited the cabin and I hope it will not be the last. Ore plans where to make art when I got there, but sometimes people just need to sit and talk. We did get around to working on a little rug hooking. This is Dana, her first time hooking. Today Dana and I when shopping. We had a great day going to two book stores,The Little Book Bindery,Handmade,Hobby Lobby, a tobacco shop(where we were given some wooden cigar boxes) and we did lunch.Above is Dana looking a handmade paper to make a book or two. Can't wait to see how they turn out. I think one of box that Dana got will become a book.
