Lots of Changes in Our Life....

What is that old saying,"If life gives you lemons, make lemonade." If you have read my blog much you know that Adam and I have been in Springfield,Il. for almost two years and really did not like it.Well, right after my last post the company Adam was working for shut it's doors. So, we packed up everything we had in Springfield ( I had moved more art stuff than I knew) and we moved back to my Ozark Mountains. It all happened very fast because both grand babies birthday were the next week and we had planned on going home for that and we could not see any need to come back to Springfield,so we got everything ready to move in one week and rented a U Haul trailer. Two very nice guys Adam had meet at work came and helped us tote everything down 3 flits of stairs.
We got home in time for the birthday party then a few days later Adam's mom started have some heart trouble so off to Oklahoma we go.We spent over a week there then came back home. Then we had to go to St.Louis for two days for a job Adam had to do.In between all this running I was working on getting my studio set up and workable.
When the kids moved in with us they took the room I had been using as my work space. We have a full walkout basement that was going to be my studio but because of time,I had never got the studio setup. The two pictures here are what it looked like when I started.Everything was in boxes and trash bags. That stack of bags is my wool for rug hooking.
As you can see here I have come a long way,but I still need more space for the wool.
I also got my loom warped and even started weaving on it.
I now have one rug done and the next one started. In between all the cleaning and weaving and grandbaby time, I have also been working on stuff for wto shows I have coming up.I have a Hook-in this weekend and a Art show next weekend.By-the-way, we are back in Springfield,Il. for a week or so for these shows and for a job Adam is working on.More to come soon.

Needle Felting Class.....and Some Big News.

Last Thursday night I taught  a needle felting class at LLCC here in Springfield. There was four ladies and one youth in the class. The class was two hours long and we filled it full.

Miss Gina took right to felting. We started with a flat piece for wool fabric so they could get the hang of the needles. Then each lady made a pin.
Darcey made four things but this is the only picture that turned out.You can see the little blue hair-bow she made.
My memory for names is so bad,I think this is Julie and she made the butterfly below.
Mary Ann made the heart below. She also made a ball with layers of colors that we cut in half.
 Cynthia made this heart.
I think everyone had a fun time,I know I did.I don't think an blood was lost.

Now for the BIG NEWS......the Hogscald Holler will soon be coming to you from back at the Holler.Yes, we are moving back to Arkansas full time.I can't tell you how happy this makes me.Now I can get my studio done there and I can really get my art going.

Live Deeply and come is me at the Holler,

Playing in the Dye Pot...

I spent yesterday playing with turning this white roving into pretty colors roving. I bought 10 lbs of roving a few months back.
Can you say "PINK"? I am using Cushing Dyes for the color. Funny how the color looks so different  in the pot.
When you live in a apartment you have to make do with what you have. Two little wood latters in the shower as a drying rack.
I am going to have lots of new colors for needle felting.

Stolen Rugs.......Have Been Found!!!!!

Anonymous Lora said...
Good news! The rugs have been found. On July 8 there was a message in the rughookers group on yahoo. This was originally on Facebook ******************** Good News, The rugs have been found. A young man walking his dog found them in a plastic garbage bag along a bike trail. His dog was sniffing the bag and he opened it up and discovered the rugs. He attends the church where the rugs were taken from and had seen the flyers about the rugs. The rugs are in good condition with the exception of a few leaves and a musty odor. I want to thank everyone who helped to spread the word by sending my note out to groups, adding it to blogs and websites. Please resend to those same groups so everyone knows that the rugs have been found. I heard from so many of you expressing your concern and that confirmed to me the unique friendships that we have within the rug hooking community. Again thanks to all and have a wonderful summer, Norma Great News, Vicki

Happy 4th of July.......

I hope you had a great 4th of July. This is a picture of the fireworks here in Springfield. My poor grand babies did not get to see any fireworks because of the fire-bans in Arkansas. So I tried to take some pictures for them.
Adam and I started the day off with a trip to the farmer's market. As we walked I snapped this picture of the capital. This is the same street that they do the fireworks on.
One of the booths at the market.

Adam checking out the bake goods, that he can't even have.

Here is what we came home today, yum yum...

Two More Bite the Dust .....

I told you I was in a hooking mood. I just finished two more rugs. The one above is the bunny rug that I did for the needle felting class I taught at the NWA Hook-in.The whole bunny is needle felted and there is a little felting on the butterfly.
This little beauty is something I started to use up some of my worms. If you are a hooker you know what I mean about worm piling up.
I guess the next thing I have to do is finish the edges to the 6 rugs I have done now.As you may be able to tell, I like to hook but finishing is not my favorite thing to do.So I tend to stack up rugs till it looks bad, then I get the finishing done.

Stolen Rugs.......

I want to share this info.As a rug hooker I think we need to help each other.I got this info from Fisheye Rugs
It is such a shame that there are people will steal someones hard work.

Dear Rug Hookers,
Last week I was teaching a workshop in Ohio for a small group in a local church.  Two rugs were stolen from the church sometime after class on Tuesday and before class began Wednesday morning.  The room was filled with wool, hooking equipment including frames and cutters, other rugs and a digital projector.  None of those items were touched.  Please forward this email on to your rug hooking guilds and groups.  If you are a frequent follower of Ebay, Craigslist or any other internet site that sells things I would appreciate it if you would be on the look out for the rugs.  I am offering a reward for information leading to the return of the rugs.

Rug #1 is my Crocodile Mola design.  It was featured in the November/December 2011 issue of Rug Hooking Magazine.  It was exhibited at the ATHA Biennial exhibit in Lancaster, PA in October 2011 and at the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild exhibit at the Shelburne Museum in November 2011.  The rug is 36 x 48.

Rug #2 is my Pumpkins and Leaves design.  It was hooked by Linda Woodbury and has been exhibited at many local shows in New Jersey.  The rug is 28 x 40.

I have attached photos below.
If you have any info please contact me or Linda.

Thank you,
Norma Batastini

Please keep your eyes out for these rugs.....if you have anything to share and need contact information for Norma, just send  a quick e-mail (fisheyerugs AT hotmail DOT com).
